Mid and upper back pain, rib and chest pain sometimes radiates in between the shoulder blades and to the ribs on the side and front of the chest

The pain is often caused by overhead arm work painting a ceiling or pulling objects and rotation of the spine. Coughing and sneezing can also cause the upper back rib and chest pain. Joints of the mid back are strained along with the rib joint to the vertebra this can cause irritation to the nerve between the ribs.

Gradual onset is usually linked to posture and overuse, while sudden pain may result from lifting or injury. In the case of a rib problem pain is made worse by twisting or taking a deep breath These symptoms can affect one or both sides of the back, shoulders, or chest, and stiffness from muscle tightness can make daily activities like hoovering, dressing or driving difficult.
