Chiropractor

 

Having been a keen sportsman, Jonathan has also worked in professional rugby Bristol RUFC, Bath RUFC, and football, Bristol Rovers FC. He has therefore developed a keen interest in sports injuries, specifically shoulders knees and ankles.

Jonathan specializes in the treatment of the spine and associated back and leg pain, which he treats using a specialized couch he designed to treat slipped discs. The couch enables multidirectional traction to decompress and remove the adhesions on the trapped nerves.

Jonathan also treats Vertigo (or BPPV),  through a specific inner ear stimulation technique known as The Epley or Semont Manoeuvre.

Neck pain and Whiplash injury is Jonathan's research interest and he is considered an expert in the field.

Jonathan's Education 

Jonathan was born in Plymouth and educated at St. Boniface College. He was always passionate about medicine and studied at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, graduating in 1984.

Work Life

Jonathan established The House Clinics in 1987 with a dream to create a team of professionals specializing in the treatment of all types of physical pain, housed under one roof. The House Clinics is now one of the largest multidisciplinary clinics in the South West.

Jonathan believes that the patient experience is paramount in chiropractic treatment, and he has led the clinic in providing a treatment service that is second-to-none.  

Jonathan is Chairman of Corporé, a national rehabilitation company that has provided rehabilitation treatment to the insurance industry and occupational health advice to large corporations. He runs a Medicolegal Practice, acting as an independent expert witness in medical negligence cases and personal injury claims.

Jonathan has lectured extensively throughout the UK to insurance companies, the legal profession, physiotherapists, chiropractors, and medical professionals.

Research 

Jonathan published papers on the ‘Efficacy of Chiropractic in the Treatment of Whiplash Injury’ for Bristol University’s Orthopaedic Department, earning him a fellowship at the Royal College of Orthopaedics. Whiplash injury is Jonathan’s prominent area of research interest.

 

Charity work 

Jonathan founded the Bristol Down Syndrome Trust, based in Westbury-on-Trym, following the birth of his son, Oliver, who has Down Syndrome. The charity provides speech, language and number therapy (‘Numicon’) for children with Down Syndrome, living in Bristol and the South West.  Jonathan has run 15 half marathons in Bristol to raise funds for the charity, most memorably dressed as Shrek! 

 

Sports and Relaxation

Jonathan is an ex-rugby player and rugby coach, and he remains a passionate England supporter. He enjoys competitive squash and tennis, the gym, and what can loosely be described as running. To relax, he enjoys yoga and practices mindfulness.

Jonathan is a “foodie” with a passion for fine dining and excellent wine. He has a passion for privately owned eateries offering locally sourced food; this has earned him the nick name ‘Sir Lunch-a-Lot’. He continues his quest to discover the areas producing better wine than Burgundy, France; he is succeeding.
