What is Chiropractic?

Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and their associated muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and a patient's general health. They specialize in the treatment of neck and back conditions, but when they assess patients, they take their entire physical, emotional and social wellbeing into account.

Chiropractors use a range of highly specialised techniques (known as 'adjustments') to treat pain and improve mobility. This usually involves hands-on manipulation of the spine to free joints in the spine or other parts of the body that are not moving properly. Apart from manipulation, Chiropractors may also use other methods, including ice and heat treatment, acupuncture, ultrasound, as well as giving advice about posture and lifestyle.
