The shoulder aches often at night and when the arm is raised away from the body It also causes pain when raising the arm out to the side or in front of the body or performing overhead task and pain when lowering the arm and lacks control.

The rotator cuff is an important group of four muscles that surround the shoulder joint. They are important in providing stability to the shoulder joint and to rotate the shoulder. Actions like putting your hand behind your back or putting your hand behind your head and to lift the arm away from your body involve the rotator cuff muscles. Of the four muscles, the tendons of the supraspinatus muscle are most frequently torn where it passes below the tip of the shoulder (acromion. The severity of a tear will vary, and they are often classified by experts in grades 1-4.
