Expert Chiropractors - Chiropractic in Pregnancy

Expert Chiropractic Treatment For The Relief Of Pregnancy Related Pain.

Our team of Bristol Chiropractors are trained and experienced in the treatment of pregnant mums. Many women are worried about taking medication when they are expecting, so Chiropractic treatment can be very beneficial for a range of common and uncomfortable conditions such as lower back pain, sciatica, pelvic girdle pain and pubic pain.

Chiropractic treatment can bring immediate pain relief as well as get to the root cause of your symptoms. Your chiropractor will be able to diagnose and correct any spinal misalignment, give you lifestyle and posture advice, as well as a safe and strengthening exercise programme to help you enjoy this special time, pain free.

"We Provide Pre and Postnatal Care"

Our Chiropractors can help mums after the baby arrives too. We highly recommend a check-up and treatment around 4-6 weeks after birth, to help you recover and regain optimal spinal health. We can also help with neck pain, back pain or shoulder pain which many women experience while breastfeeding or after carrying their baby. Being a mum can put lots of added pressure on your body, but with Chiropractic care, this doesn't mean you have to be in pain.

Common Painful Conditions We Can Treat

During the early stages of pregnancy, your body starts to make the hormone relaxin, to enable the ligaments in the pelvic area to relax and loosen in preparation for birth. On the negative side, this hormone can also cause muscles supporting your spine to loosen which can lead to instability in your muscular-skeletal system. This can result in back pain, most commonly around the lower back, even in the very early months.

Later during pregnancy, usually around months 5-6, natural postural changes begin to take place as your bump gets bigger and your centre of gravity changes. These anatomical changes can begin to put a strain on your lower body.

Many women experience the following conditions during their pregnancy, all of which can be effectively treated with Chiropractic care:

  • Lower Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Leg Pain and Numbness
  • Hip Pain
  • Pubic Pain
  • Pelvic Girdle Pain (also known as symphysis pubis dysfunction SPD)

What To Expect With Chiropractic Treatment

When you come for your first appointment with the Chiropractor, they will run through your case history and do a full examination. A diagnosis and treatment plan will be discussed with you before any treatment begins.

Treatment is always tailored to your personal needs and the stage of your pregnancy. Your Chiropractor will use techniques including a combination of hands-on soft tissue therapy, gentle spinal adjustments, postural and lifestyle advice, as well as an appropriate exercise programme to strengthen and support your back.

Your first consultation and treatment will be around 45 minutes long, while any follow-up appointments are usually 15-20 minutes.
