What is traditional acupuncture, also known as Chinese acupuncture?

Traditional acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing practice that has been used for thousands of years to promote health and balance within the body. It involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the body to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue, promoting natural pain relief and healing processes. Rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow, or "Qi" (pronounced "chee"). This holistic therapy aims to restore balance and harmony, alleviating a wide range of physical and emotional ailments.

Traditional acupuncture is widely recognized for its effectiveness in managing pain, reducing stress, and improving overall well-being. Acupuncture is frequently used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, migraines, arthritis, anxiety, and insomnia. By targeting key pressure points, this natural therapy helps to release tension, enhance circulation, and promote the body's natural healing processes.

How can traditional acupuncture help me?

Accupuncture can help with various conditions, including:

  • Chronic Pain - Studies show acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain-killing chemicals to treat back pain, neck pain, sciatica, arthritis, and migraines.

  • Inflamation reduction - Research indicates acupuncture can modulate the immune system and reduce inflamation.

  • Improved Circulation - Acupuncture has been shown to enhance blood flow and oxygenation in tissues.

  • Stress and Anxiety - Acupuncture has been found to lower stress hormones and promote relaxtion.

  • Sleep Disorders: Acupuncture can alleviate insomnia and sleep disturbances

  • Whilst acupuncture is commonly used for treating pain, the scope of acupuncture is very broad, and is used to treat many systemic conditions such as digestive, respiritory, gynechological issues, and much more.

What happens during an acupuncture appointment?

Initial consultation

Your acupuncturist will ask about your medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, and any specific health concerns you have. This helps them tailor the treatment to your individual needs.

Treatment Plan

Based on your initial consultation and examination, your acupuncturist will develop a treatment plan, selecting specific acupuncture points to address your issues.

Needle Insertion

The needles are usually left in place for around 30-40 minutes. During this time, you may feel relaxed and even fall asleep.

Removal and Aftercare

The needles are carefully removed and your acupuncturist may offer advice on lifestyle changes, diet, or exercises to complement the treatment.

Follow-up

The number and frequesncy of sessions will depend on your condition. Chronic issues may require regular sessions over a period of weeks or months, while acute conditions may need fewer visits.

Yes, acupuncture is a safe and minimally invasive procedure when performed by a qualified practitioner. We use sterile, single-use needles to ensure the highest safety standards.
