How to book your Mummy MOT?
A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal checkup for women following birth. Our specially trained physiotherapist will examine how your posture, your breathing, pelvic floor muscles and stomach muscles are recovering after childbirth. You'll receive a full examination, a report of findings, physiotherapy treatment and exercises to help with your full recovery.
The Mummy Mot is designed for any mum. Whether you've had a straightforward birth with no complications, a C-section, or experienced trauma such as tearing or tummy muscle separation; the Mummy Mot is designed to screen and assess any issues and ensure you can enjoy a full recovery. The MOT will help you restart exercising and doing the activities you love, as well as give you lots of tips on how to look after your body with all the physical demands of being a mum.
Even if your pregnancy and birth go smoothly, your body goes through a lot of physical changes affecting your posture, joints, your tummy muscles and pelvic floor muscles. Some women experience more serious conditions such as debilitating back pain, pelvic girdle pain, abdominal separation, and perineal tears.
The Mummy MOT is post birth rehabilitation to help you regain good posture, breathing, body movement, strength, and strong pelvic floor muscles, as well as screen for and prevent more serious issues. You'll also get advice on how to care for yourself; look after your posture, hold and lift your baby, prevent neck and shoulder pain while feeding your baby, as well as return to exercise and activities you enjoy, both quickly and safely.
We advise you to have a Mummy Mot from six weeks onwards. This will ensure you have the best chance of getting on track to a full recovery, preventing any problems from the outset.
But it's never too late to get help, so even if you're 1-2 years down the road, the Mummy Mot assessment can help you recover from many persistent post birth problems.
The Mummy Mot is a 1-hour assessment taking place at our clinic in Redland, Bristol. We advise you to wear comfortable, loose clothing.
The assessment includes:
Full postural screen
Pelvic floor muscle assessment
Abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation
Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
Education and advice on safe activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy.
Bespoke rehabilitation programme with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind.
A written report on the findings of your assessment.
