Pain in the mid-back, between the shoulders and sometimes the chest, can arise from the vertebral joints being sprained in the mid-back or thoracic spine. Often the pain arises from the rib joint to the vertebra. A typical symptom of the rib problem is pain on rotation and or taking a deep breath in.
